I need a little help from all you optimistic people.
You see, after many weeks of trying to locate Emily Bronte's 'Wuthering Heights' but to no avail, I finally managed to find them at Tropicana City's Borders.
But here is the deal; there are two very distinct editions available at Borders.
The one above is the Vintage Classics edition which features a more contemporary cover whereas the one below is the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition.
The deluxe edition's cover might look cartoonish but it is actually illustrated by renowned fashion illustrator, Ruben Toledo whose works have been featured on the pages of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, The New Yorker, Interview and THE New York Times.
And I do have a soft spot for the American magazine publications (and to a certain extent people who works at American magazine publications)...
Anyway, the Vintage edition retails for RM29.90 and the Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition retails for RM59.65.
So yeahhh...which one do you propose I get?
Your insight is highly valued and I give you my permission to call me shallow if you think that getting the more expensive deluxe copy is a joke.

Well I would say the decision about which edition to get is entirely up to you my friend. At the end of the day, the text of both editions is still the same. The deluxe edition may have a special introduction or something like that though. If you have some cash to spare, and if you're a really big fan of the artist's work, then I would say get the deluxe edition. Kiamsiap people like me will probably just settle for the Vintage edition and use the savings to buy another book ;)
The only difference is the cover, get the vinntage edition.
Well, the way I see it, you actually have three choices.
1. Vintage
It's cheaper, and the look is probably gonna' last longer than the deluxe edition. Plus, it's black so it'll match with whatever you're wearing when you're reading it.
2. Deluxe
It's very artistic and maybe twenty years from now, it might be worth a lot more than the original.
3. Both!
If you have the money, then I don't see why not.
JT, yup you're right...the text is the same...but the deluxe cover looks damn pro...decisions decisions!
HS, point taken
jake, i wish! but i'm kind of-ish broke...spent half of my allowance on new clothes for CNY T.T
GET THE DELUXE COPY! I think that could be a real collector's thing in the future as the prints for these kind of books are limited.
desmond, well that was what i though too...again decision decisions!
From my point of view, the vintage version has always been a classic to other editions of a similar book.
My suggestion would be to rather take the vintage version, seeing how the book appears though more simplistic, the value of the book is not that less compared to the so-called deluxe version. Trust me, I know. And you should know why too.
Save the extra cash to get yourself a nice red t-shirt for CNY la.
julian, yup i get the point...but you know what? it woule be even better if i can find the penguin's rm8.50 copy...i bought 'war & peace' the other day...found it at sunway pyramid.
btw YOU STILL HAVEN'T WRITE UP THAT GLEE ARTICLE FOR TSIAB!!!!
Oh Chester, you got a copy of "War and Peace"? How much did it cost you? I have a copy too. Mine's the Wordsworth edition. It's been on my bookshelf for a couple of years adi. Bought it at an MPH warehouse sale. Now that STPM is over I have no more excuses to put off reading it.
jt, yeap...i bought the rm8.50 copy...the penguin classics with the green cover
get deluxe! so worth the money. it's artistic! and for it to be illustrated by A RENOWNED FASHION ILLUSTRATOR OMG.
I am not shallow.
I didn't know that there was a Penguin Classics edition of "War and Peace" selling for only RM8.50. That's quite a reasonable price. Is it complete and unabridged then?
